Changing Skyline, Changing Landscape
Bacolod is being redrawn, upwards and sideways. Literally.
As one development after another break ground in the city, it is no surprise if in a matter of two, three years, the city will look thoroughly different than it is now. Take as many photos as you can of the nooks and crannies, highways and byways of the city these days – how they look now may well become part of our memories soon.
Lacson Street, that has been declared Bacolod’s Tourism Strip, is now host to many other tourism-related projects, the most recent of which is the Avenue Suites Hotel. Last year, Balay Quince, a modern structure that houses eating places, opened to favorable buzz.
A few feet away, along 6th St., a high rise is rising as well – Cityscapes Residences condominums. In suburban Bacolod east of Lopue’s East are building High Residences compose of 3 6 storey , by far the biggest upscale residential project in the city.
SM City Bacolod will have 2 phases of expansion, 1st phase is expected to be completed on April 2013, while the 2nd phase is expected to commence right after the 1st phase is completed. After the 2 phases of expansion is completed, SM City Bacolod is expected to be one of the largest provincial mall of SM in the country.
SM City at the reclaimed area is building another shopping center beside the old mall, while Robinsons is building its Go Hotel at the back of its mall. Of course Robinsons has beaten all mall operators when it unveiled its Central Citywalk last year.
Up North, beside Robinsons is the Central District and farther, beside the imposing San Parq housing Convergys is another mega project, that is excitedly being hailed as soon-to-be tallest building in the city.
For a long time, that honor had been held by the PNB building along Lacson. That a record breaker is rising now is only further proof that the dynamic wheels of progress in the real estate front has accelerated, hopefully to an unstoppable speed. L
